Mythology Homework Specifications
Unless you are given other information,
these are my expectations for homework that is done for this class.
The Basics
Content
I
look forward to reading your ideas
and your work. Plagiarism will result
in consequences none of us wants to deal with.
Make sure to quote
or paraphrase words that you are borrowing from elsewhere, whether that is a
book, a web site, or the homework assignment you have been given. For this
class, if you are referring to the reading specific to an assignment, a full
citation is not necessary. If you refer to a different source, make sure to
give the title, author, and page number (if using a book or magazine) or the
URL (web address) and author, if available, of a web site. Please see me
beforehand if you are not clear on any of this.
Make sure to read
the assignment and follow the directions carefully. Do the correct assignment.
I will rarely, if ever, assign plot summaries, so please make sure to answer
the questions I have asked, rather than spending a lot of time and words
retelling a narrative I have already read.
Appearance
Homework
must be done in black or dark blue ink. Use white paper that is roughly 8 ½” x
11”. Paper from composition books is too small.
Work done on a
keyboard must be in an easily-read font with serifs (such as Bookman,
Librarian, Times, Times New Roman, New York, Georgia, Book Antiqua, and
Garamond, etc.) in 11, 12, or 13 point font. All work done on a keyboard must
be double-spaced. Handwritten assignments only need to be double-spaced if your
handwriting is especially frightening.
All assignments of
one-half Verdone Unit or longer (see below) are to be written as two or more
paragraphs. That means you must either indent before beginning a new paragraph
or skip a space between paragraphs.
Length
One
full Verdone Unit is equal to at least
250 words.
One-half
Verdone Unit is equal to at least 125
words.
Formality of Writing
For full credit, avoid
these:
♦
gonna,
wanna, hafta
♦
coulda, shoulda
♦
a/b, b/t,
b/c
♦
y’all,
you, your, yourself,
♦
mom, my
Mom, granddad, his grandma, her daddy
♦
using symbols in the place of words (such as &,
+, / [except in and/or])
♦
slang expressions.
Instead,
♦
write going
to, want to, have to
♦
use could
have, should have
♦
spell out about,
between, because
♦
find a way to make generalizations that does not
require you
♦
use my
mother, Mom, Granddad or my
grandfather, his grandmother, her father
♦
spell out
and
♦
use more formal terms.
Due Dates
Homework
will always be accepted early and on the day it is due. Work that is turned in
up to one class day late will be eligible for up to 80% of the assignment
grade. Unless you have an excused absence, work will not receive credit if it
is turned in later than that.
